Living the Epiphany

 In Pastor's Notes-Fr. Ritche

I was listening to a homily a few days ago on the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. The homilist said: “This day is no longer called the Feast of the Three Kings, rather it is called the Epiphany of the Lord because the whole Christmas season is about God manifesting His love and plan for all of humanity.” He added, Epiphany does not only happen on a single day. It is every day. God reveals Himself to us every day in many ways.”

I believe there is a great wisdom to what the priest shared. In fact, the whole Christmas season reminds us of the three ways God manifested Himself to humanity. First, it is the official revelation of Jesus as God’s Son. Christmas is God’s Self- revelation to the Jewish people. Second, Epiphany is God’s manifestation to the Gentiles. And third, the Feast of the Lord’s baptism is God’s revelation of Jesus as His Beloved Son. Although these are three main epiphanies, God continues to make His presence known in our daily lives.

Today, as we end the great season of Christmas, let us keep the spirit of the season alive. As we have celebrated Christ’s coming into our world and into our lives, the challenge before us is keep that reality alive—to keep His presence known. The incarnation didn’t end more than 2,000 years ago. It goes on, every day, in every one of us. We are called to be the embodiment of Christ to one another.

This brings me to invite you to support our “Winter Warm-Up Drive.” I am sure you’ve noticed that this has been a very cold winter. Donating to this drive will enable us to bring the warmth of Christ’s love to our sisters and brothers who need them the most – the poor and homeless. You may donate things like blankets, beanies, scarves, gloves, hand warmers, etc. This project is in partnership with Home First and Sacred Community Center. More details about this drive can be found on our parish website.

We do not know what 2022 has in store for us, but we certainly know what God is asking of us – to continue the Epiphany event. By praying, encouraging, caring, supporting, welcoming, understanding, forgiving, and loving one another, Jesus, the Christ, the Holy Child, becomes even more present in our midst today.

Merry Christmas!
