Sacred Heart

Social Ministries

Sacred Heart Community Service is a non-denominational, non-profit organization which provides integrated services onsite free of charge to all in need. The programs offered are in three main categories: Essential Services (food, clothing, housing, and utility assistance), Self Sufficiency (education, family support, and employment), and Policy and Organization (training low income volunteers to work together to address the needs of their community).

Holy Spirit Parish supports and volunteers for many of the programs at Sacred Heart. Below is a list of ongoing and current opportunities to serve.

Thank you From Pack-a-Back!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Pack a Back! Our backpack and school supply drive is close to complete. We had an amazing amount of participation this year through donations of items and funds, and we are pleased to announce that we almost doubled our monetary donations over last year’s numbers! It was very touching to see the backpacks and items carefully selected by our parishioners as well as the increasing amount of donations on our fundraising site and purchases off our Amazon wish list. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity. On August 7, a group of Holy Spirit parishioners went to Sacred Heart to assemble supply kits. We assembled 1,000 school supply kits in one morning! Then, on August 11, a different group of parishioners distributed backpacks and supplies to some very excited kids. The students got to pick out which backpack they wanted and then they were given everything they needed to fill it up for a successful school year. The children and their parents are always enthusiastic about choosing their backpacks, and the kids leave happy, confident, and eager to start school with their brand-new gear. We are done collecting backpacks and supplies, but look forward to another great backpack drive next year. Thank you again for your support. You brought smiles to the faces of 3,800 kids and their families!

 –  Make a monetary donation on our Pack a Back fundraising page.Your tax-deductible donation will be used by Sacred Heart to purchase the school supplies that are needed most at the best prices.

Thank you for your support! Please contact Alison Gibbons Chardos at alison_gibbons@yahoo.com with any questions.

Toy Drive

Sacred Heart has made changes to their Toy Drive program.   Each family will be given gift cards from Target-Walmart-Amazon so the parents can pick out what is needed for Christmas. Their goal is to ensure 6000 children get gifts this year.

Here is how you can help:

–   Please click the donation button below and give the amount that best works for you.

–   OR purchase gift cards yourself in $10.00 or $25.00 denominations and drop them off at Sacred Heart 1381 S First Street.

With your help we can help bring joy to these families this Christmas and a smile to a child’s face.
