Layette Ministry

Social Ministries

Little blessings

The Layette Program provides over 40 complete layettes a year to the Public Health Nurses. Extra layettes are available for any special request or need.

If you are looking for something to do that helps our community from the comfort of your own home we may have something that is just right for you. Our Layette ministry is looking for people who can sew, knit or crochet to make blankets and clothes for infants that are given to the Public Health nurse for single mothers, low income families and in some cases victims of domestic violence that have no other means of clothing or coverings for their newborns. It lets them know someone cares about them and their babies.

We meet the first Monday of each month to drop off completed items and pick up new packages of material to work on for the next month. During this meeting we take time to come together as a group as we enjoy coffee and snacks. During this Shelter at home these meetings have been put on hold but we are continuing to do our sewing and knitting.

If you can help out or want more information please contact Roberta Zoller at: raz990@att.net or call: 408-316-7061(cell) or 408-268-7918 (home).

A complete layette includes the following items we make:

• one blanket or quilt
• three receiving blankets
• two bibs
• one sweater
• one hat
• two pair booties

Plus these items secured by other means:

• one dozen disposable diapers
• two baby pins
• three gowns
• three sleep and play suits
• three onesies
• one item of used clothing when available
• one fleece sleeping blanket

In December the Diocese of San Jose Office of Women holds a Layette Celebration and all Catholic Churches in the Diocese with a Womens Guild, Sewing Circle, or similar group, bringing layette items they have made throughout the year. These items are displayed at the celebration and then collected and brought to the Womens Auxiliary layette storeroom to be sorted and made into layettes that are distributed throughout the year.

Our group meets the first Monday of each month at 9:15am in the Parish Hall (We meet the second Monday of September). We bring the items we have made during the previous month and get new materials to continue sewing, knitting or crocheting. Four layettes are also made up and, after the short meeting , delivered to the Public Health Nurses.

For any questions, please email Roberta Zoller or call 408-268-7918.

We do not meet during the months of July and August.
