Job’s Not Finished

 In Articles

Last Sunday, 44 of our youth received the fullness of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a wonderful celebration culminating a two-year formational process for most of our Candidates. It was great seeing them profess their faith and being anointed by the Chrism oil by Bishop Cantu.

While it may seem like it, I constantly remind them that Confirmation is not graduation. Confirmation merely marks the beginning of their faith journey as fully initiated Catholics. Now is where the real work begins. Luckily for us, Holy Spirit offers a wide variety of ministries that our youth and especially our Newly Confirmed to be involved in…from participation and leadership in youth ministry, liturgical ministry, music ministry, mission trips, retreats, and so much more.

Now that we’re in the heat of basketball playoffs, I am reminded of the late Kobe Bryant. In his 2009 Game 2 Finals postgame interview, a journalist asked him about his stoic demeanor. Kobe simply replied, “What’s there to be happy about? Job’s not finished.” His conviction and determination were unwavering. He kept his eye on the prize.

Fortunately for us, we have plenty to be happy about! God answered our prayers by giving us a LOT of rain, Easter is upon us, Christ is Risen, and finally the sun (Son) is shining!

However, let’s keep in mind that there is still work to do in our faith, in our relationship with Christ, in our community, and especially in continuing to guide our youth and our Newly Confirmed. Job’s not finished! Let’s continue to do the Good Work!
