Introducing Tim – Our New Music Director!

 In Articles

Hello again, from Fr. John!

This week, I would like to introduce our new music director Timothy Mascarinas. Although I introduced Tim at all Masses last weekend, just in case you haven’t heard, Tim is the new music director for Holy Spirit parish community. I’ve asked Tim to share a little bit about himself so we can get to know him better:

Tim Mascarinas, our new Director of Music, comes to us, recently from Connecticut. Born and raised in Delano, CA, he began music ministry at the age of 7 playing piano and singing at his home church, St. Mary’s. After high school, Tim received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Music at UC Davis and Sacramento State, respectively. Tim moved to Connecticut to pursue his doctoral degree at University of Connecticut and will defend his dissertation remotely later this year. Tim also serves as choir director at Diablo Valley College, leading the Chamber Singers for the 2022-23 season. Previously, Tim was director of Glee Club, assistant conductor and accompanist for Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and co-teaching the undergraduate conducting courses at UConn. Tim was also Organist & Choir Director at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in South Windsor, CT. Tim has served as music director for the communities of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Sacramento, and St. James Catholic Church in Davis. Tim enjoys cooking, hiking, golf, tennis, basketball, and follows most sports including lesser-known ones such as disc golf and darts. He values the importance of family and camaraderie, two factors in joining Holy Spirit Parish: to be part of a vibrant community and to be closer to family. Let us keep Tim in our prayers as he begins this new journey with us at Holy Spirit.

As Jesus says in this Sunday’s gospel, “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” We thank Tim for the gifts and talent the Lord has given him and saying “yes” to the call to be our music director. May our community continue to worship in a lively way and continue to be set ablaze with Christ’s fire through the workings of the Holy Spirit.

Shalom,

Fr. John
