Precious Blood

 In Articles, Pastor's Notes

As we enter the month of July, the Catholic Church marks this month to honor the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Let us take this opportunity to thank the Lord for His Precious Blood that he promised to us when he said, “my blood is true drink” (John 6:55). We also begin to prepare ourselves to hopefully return to receiving this Sacred Species of Our Lord in the Mass. As each parish in our diocese prepares to receive the Precious Blood from pre-pandemic times, we too prepare ourselves at Holy Spirit with guidelines and catechesis soon to be announced.

St. Longinus is the centurion who pierced the side of Our Lord while He was hanging on the Cross. It is said that Longinus, nearly blind, was healed when some of the blood and water from Jesus fell into his eyes. He was killed for his faith and his lance is contained in one of the pillars in the Basilica of St Peter’s in Rome.

When the centurion who stood facing him saw how he breathed his last he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” —Mark 15:39

St. Longinus pray for us!

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and I hope everyone has a good 4th of July.
