2021 Annual Diocesan Appeal – Journeying Together in Hope

 In Pastor's Notes-Fr. Ritche

In 1981, the Diocese of San Jose was established.  We were born out of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and our first bishop was the Most Rev. Pierre DuMaine.  Our diocese covers all of Santa Clara County that has over half a million Catholics.

This year, our Diocese is celebrating 40 wonderful years of ministry to God’s people in the Valley of St. Clare.  This is a year of gratitude not only to God but also to all of you for your continued support of the different areas of ministry.

The Office of Evangelization ensures that those who are in need, the poor, the homeless, the incarcerated, the immigrants, the unemployed and others in need are supported. Our Department of Education continues to support our Catholic schools and ensure that the students receive the best formation especially during these unprecedented times.

We continue to form seminarians who will serve as priests in our diocese.  We currently have eight men in formation at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Chicago. We also form lay men and women through to the Institute of Leadership and Ministry to collaborate with the ordained in continuing the work of the Lord.   There are other ministries that are very important like the Youth and Young Adult and the Tribunal.    We are only able to succeed in these ministries through generous support.

This weekend, we are launching our 2021 Annual Diocesan Appeal.  The theme of this year’s appeal is “Journeying Together in Hope,” which happens to be theme of the 40th Anniversary of the foundation of our Diocese.  As I have said earlier for forty years, our Diocese have been working as a beacon of Christ’s hope and light throughout Santa Clara Valley.  Your gift to the ADA allows us to continue to encounter Christ through a variety of ministries and services to do God’s work of justice, mercy, outreach and formation.

With our goal last year, $33,000 was rebated to our parish.  Thank you!  This year our goal is $290,000.  I am sure that you have received your pledge forms that has been mailed last week.  I appeal to your generosity once again.

Please consider making a gift of $300 to this year’s appeal.

In addition, to helping the Diocese, every dollar received over our goal comes back to Holy Spirit Parish and will be directed to our parish efforts to grow our local ministries like youth ministry, catechetical programs, our school and to offset some our expenses during this pandemic.

Family helps one another and I ask you to help the rest of our Church family through the ADA. We share with each other and help one another overcome difficulties. That is the way family works.

As we begin this New Year, I join you in prayer.  We ask our loving God that through the power of the Holy Spirit, He may guide and protect us as we continue to journey in hope through these uncertain times.

On behalf of Bishop Oscar Cantu, I’d like to thank you in advance for your generous support of this year’s Annual Diocesan Appeal.

Stay safe and healthy!

God bless,
Fr. Ritche
