Happy New Year – Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

 In Pastor's Notes-Fr. Ritche

Happy New Year!  Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God.  As we begin 2021, I believe it is providential that the Church places before us the image of Mary.  We are invited to be like Mary when she welcomed Her Son, She did it in prayer and reflection.  The gospel of St. Luke tells us, “Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.”

I think there is wisdom as to how we should welcome 2021.  There is another option to the usual gathering, fireworks, noise that ushers in the new year.  How about setting aside a moment of silence instead? In silence, we can reflect as to how we would allow the Child Jesus to direct our lives this year.  What surprises and gifts He brings to us?  And what changes and or adjustments He invites us to undertake?

Let us remain hope-filled and faith-filled.  Yes, the pandemic is still around us, but there is a light at the end the tunnel.  This is a new year with many opportunities ahead of us. We should not allow the “virus” to paralyze us in seeing the beauty of life. There is more to the pandemic.  Let us be reminded of the words of the Angel to Joseph, Mary, Zechariah, and the shepherds: “Do not be afraid” because His name is Emmanuel, God-with-us; He who is with us until the end of time.

Again, Happy, Healthy, Blessed and Hope-filled New Year to all of you!
