Happy Labor Day!

 In Pastor's Notes-Fr. Ritche

Labor Day is a holiday that invites us to honor and recognize the American labor movement and more importantly the works and contribution of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. This is the time to acknowledge the value of all laborers and their contributions to the well-being of all.

All of us are aware that the past 18 months have not been friendly in terms of work. The pandemic has left many people not only underemployed, but also unemployed. Laborers are struggling to make ends meet. I salute all laborers for working doubly hard to provide for their personal needs and the needs of their family.

As we celebrate Labor Day, I’d like to invite all of us to remember all of those who serve in the US Armed Forces, those who work in the medical field, the firefighters, the farm and grocery workers, the hotel and restaurant employees, teachers, pilots and flight attendants and all who work at the airports – these are just some of the “essential workers” or “front liners” who ensure that our basic needs are met. They often go over above and beyond their call of duty to keep us safe and healthy. Thus, they deserve to be showered with recognition and gratitude.

From the spiritual standpoint, through them we experience God’s healing and loving presence in our midst. They give us a reason to believe that life is worth living – that we can start all over again even after the most devastating challenge that comes our way.

However, you have planned to celebrate Labor Day, whether a BBQ, camping, travel, or simply being at home, I encourage everyone to pause and give thanks to the Creator of all, and to pray for one another, we who have been given the gift to work in God’s vineyard. Let us all be safe in our observance of this holiday.

May St. Joseph, the patron of all workers, intercede for all of us. May St. Joseph guide us in our work so that it may always bring honor and glory to our God.

On behalf of Fr. Edgar, the parish and school staffs, I’d like to wish all of you a very Happy and Safe Labor Day!
