Gratitude Practice

 In Mental Health & Wellbeing

The challenges to our health, safety peace in our world today may lean toward brokenness, but the practice of gratitude has the power to heal. Taking time each day to focus, even briefly, on gratitude can bring hope and transformative energy to our lives. Paying attention to the good that surrounds us, even as we acknowledge the difficulties, can improve our health and our spirit. Finding small things to be grateful for can keep us energized in our efforts to make the world a more just and equitable one for all.

This week, jump-start a gratitude practice by jotting down fourteen things you are grateful for. Five days later, make a new list of fourteen items and then compare. Or, send a thank you note to someone who deserves it. (Like a friend who calls you each week to check on you, or a neighbor who brought in your garbage cans!) If you enjoy letter writing, write one a day for a week and reflect on what graces might have come just from this simple practice. Research shows that writing a gratitude letter will promote happiness and well-being…something we all can use!

Holy Spirit Church is grateful for all of you! Be well!
