What is this retreat about?
To build a fire from scratch, we have to begin with kindling. Once the kindling has caught fire then we slowly add more sticks, fanning its flames. As the fire grows, we add larger pieces of wood. Eventually we can throw a log or even a wet log on it and the fire will be red hot.
Our prayer life is much the same: we have to start off small and slowly grow it until it is a roaring hot fire of the Holy Spirit. Most of us want a strong spiritual and prayer life but we forget we have to start small to get there, just like a fire. Once it has some flames then we can fan it and add more to build it up to the point where it is a red-hot fire of prayer.
Over the years, Fr. Brendan has given many retreats and in reality, only a few of us can come away on a retreat to learn how to pray. Most of these retreatants find the experience of a retreat to be life changing and suggest that we find some way to have more people experience a retreat. As we all adjust to the “shelter at home” order, we are taking the retreat online!
Who is this retreat for?
This retreat offers something for everyone, regardless of where you are on your faith journey. We hope you will consider attending!
What can I expect to gain from attending?
A deepening of your relationship with Christ. You will also learn simple techniques of how to pray, where to pray, who to pray to, and how often. There will be plenty of simple, practical methodologies of prayer.
I’ve never been on a retreat and am not sure if I’m ready for something like this.
If you have the desire, we encourage you to participate. Trust that the Lord will meet you where you are at. If you’ve done retreats before, we encourage you to participate not only for yourself, but invite someone else and keep them company as they might find it difficult.
Can I miss some sections of the retreat --what if I can't attend the live stream?
What’s going to happen in the sessions?
What is the minimum age to participate?
The retreat is for high school aged youth and above.
Will you have Eucharistic Adoration?
Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer Eucharistic Adoration at this time.
What will I need for the retreat?
We recommend that you have a journal and a pen, along with a space where you can enter into prayers.
How do I access materials for each sessions?
We will post materials right before each session and material will remain available for the rest of the retreat.
Will we be meeting in small groups?
There will be options for your individual prayer time, including joining facilitated prayer and reflection with others. Participants may also choose to book 15 minutes to meet 1:1 online with a spiritual advisor if they so desire.
What time does the retreat start?
The retreat starts on Tuesday, March 24 and live session will begin at 9:30 AM.
The remaining sessions will continue on Wednesday, March 25 & Thursday, March 26. We will resume the following Tuesday, March 31 through Thursday, April 2.
