Layette Ministry

Social Ministries

Little blessings

The Holy Spirit Layette Program recently made a large delivery of baby layette items which included quilts, afghans, fleece blankets, receiving blankets, gowns, fleece sleepers, onesies, sleep and play suits, sweater sets, bibs, caps, diapers and wipes to the Diocese of San Jose’s Layette Program.  Their annual Layette Tea was not able to be held this December due to the pandemic, so instead they held a drive by drop off of our layette items at their Sunnyvale warehouse, where all these items are stored.

Our Holy Spirit Layette group was only able to have two meetings this last year in January and February, but many of our members continued to knit and sew the baby quilts, blankets and baby clothing so we were still able to have a large donation.

In the past years we would also deliver completed layettes to the Public Health Nurses each month, but that had to stop in March when the nurses were reassigned and not able to receive any of our donations.  Fortunately, the nurses were able to continue to go to the Sunnyvale warehouse and make up the layettes for their clients.

If you are looking for something to do that helps our community from the comfort of your own home, we may have something that is just right for you. Our Layette ministry is looking for people who can sew, knit or crochet to make blankets and clothes for infants that are given to the Public Health nurse for single mothers, low income families and in some cases victims of domestic violence that have no other means of clothing or coverings for their newborns. It lets them know someone cares about them and their babies.

Little blessings

The Layette Program provides over 40 complete layettes a year to the Public Health Nurses. Extra layettes are available for any special request or need.

We meet the first Monday of each month to drop off completed items and pick up new packages of material to work on for the next month. During this meeting we take time to come together as a group as we enjoy coffee and snacks. During this Shelter at home these meetings have been put on hold but we are continuing to do our sewing and knitting.
